Competition structure

U8s
The U8’s at Norths play in the 3x3 format.

  • The games are officiated by Norths Development Coaches, to provide a fun, fast-paced environment, and assist all players in learning the basics of Basketball.
Games are 2x12 minute halves on a basketball half-court, with no official scoring.

  • A maximum of 4 players can register to an Under 8’s team.

  • The 3x3 format is played with a ring height of 8’6ft (+ Hula Hoop) and a Size 4 ball. The 3pt line is outside of the key.

U10’s - U13’s
The U10-U13’s at Norths play in the 5x5 format.

  • The top 2 U12’s and U13’s teams of each division will play a Grand Final game on March 28.
All U12’s and U13’s teams will play on this date regardless of their position on the ladder.

  • U10’s DO NOT play finals.

  • If you are unable to attend the Grand Final game, please inform NSBA by the final round of your competition. The third placed team will then be offered your place in the Grand Final game.

REGRADING

After Round 3 of the competition, each team's performance will be reviewed and NSBA will complete a regrading process taking into consideration the context of the divisions/age group as a whole.

Where a team is identified as being too strong or too weak for a division - NSBA may make changes to their grade to ensure they are provided with the opportunity to verse teams of similar caliber and games are competitive for the majority of teams.

Where a team is unable to be moved up a division and is considered too strong for their current division - NSBA may at their discretion make the team ineligible for the finals.

BNSW Membership fees / secondary association information

All players must pay an annual NSBA/BNSW fee in order to participate in competitions. This cost covers your registration with NSBA and your membership with BNSW. The membership fee will be automatically prompted for payment if your membership expires within the season dates.

If NSBA is your secondary association, please provide the following information to Elena (competitions@nsba.com.au) to receive a secondary association discount voucher:

  • BNSW membership expiry date.

  • Primary association membership payment receipt.

Active Kids voucher

NSBA has a process to enable players to claim their AKV either toward their 2026 registration or Autumn competition Team Fees.

Please read the information carefully.
Players have two options if they wish to use their Active Kids Voucher towards their Basketball fees.

Active Kids Vouchers Deadline:
The Team Manager must email competitions@nsba.com.au by 16th January with the relevant 2026 AKV details.
The relevant deduction of AKV’s will then be applied to the team’s invoice before the invoice is issued.

Using an Active Kids Voucher towards Player Registration:
If you would like to redeem an Active Kids Voucher for your NSBA/BNSW Registration, this can be done at the checkout in PlayHQ. Under the ‘Payment and Summary’ section, go to ‘Government Vouchers’ and select ‘Active Kids (NSW)’ from the drop-down menu, enter in the Active Kids Voucher code and press ‘Apply’ before processing your payment.

Using an Active Kids Voucher towards Team Fees:
AKV can be processed by NSBA and credited to the Team Fees. This process is completed by the Team Manager by collecting the full name, date of birth and voucher number from each player. The Team Manager is then responsible for sending one email through to competitions@nsba.com.au with all the players vouchers information to be processed and credited to the final team fees invoice.

NSBA competition by-laws

duty

All teams are required to provide a competent person to complete duty (score table) on their own game.

To help ensure smooth operations, we encourage all teams to organise someone to complete duty for their game in advance.

Not applicable for U8 teams.

rules on fill-ins

A team may organise fill-in players should their registered players be unavailable for a game.

Fill-in players are required to have an active NSBA/BNSW Membership (this can include the 14-day pass).

Rules for Fill-Ins

Each team is limited to a maximum of 3 fill-in players for any game, to bring the total players for that game up to six.

The fill-in player must not be on the roster for another team within the age-group. (Eg. U12 Girls 2 Team A player, cannot fill-in for U12 Girls 1 Team A.)

The fill-in player must not have played a game with another team in that division or age group. (For example, and U10’s player cannot fill-in for two different teams in U12’s)

Fill-in players must comply with the relevant uniform requirements or be penalised per clause 21.

If a fill-in player plays 3 or more games for a team they must be added to the team roster.

For more information on fill-ins refer to the NSBA Competition By-Laws.

uniforms

Each team is required to supply their own uniforms.

All teams must have a matching uniform by Week 6 of the competition.

Players must play in shorts WITHOUT pockets.

More about the uniform policy can be found in the NSBA Competition By-Laws.

Forfeits and fines

If your team is required to forfeit a game, please call the NSBA Front Desk (02 9906 7877) a minimum of 24hrs BEFORE YOUR GAME.

Once you speak to a staff member, please follow the phone call up by emailing the following details to: nsisc@nsba.com.au

  • Team Name

  • Team Grade (including day played e.g. Monday Men’s B)
